WHY was commissioned to design a seating area for a work of sound art installed at the home of an art collector. To create the Terroir Chairs, we used stones hand-picked from around the property, supported by a structure of stainless steel. Playing with impressions of motion and tension, the chairs provide an unusual – and unexpectedly comfortable – place to sit and contemplate sound and space.
